Questions
About the times and how they are worked out.
How are the times worked out?
From the position of the sun for the place itself, on the day: the moment the sun reaches each prayer's angle below the horizon, with the method its country follows. Nothing is looked up, so every town on earth is covered.
Why does my mosque differ by a minute or two?
Mosques round their times and some add a few minutes for safety. The time your mosque announces is the one to follow.
Which method does my country use?
Each country has its usual one: Karachi in Bangladesh and Pakistan, Umm al-Qura in Saudi Arabia, Diyanet in Turkey, and so on, with Hanafi Asr where it is the custom. Each town's page says which one it follows.
When do Sehri end and Iftar begin?
Sehri ends at Fajr and Iftar is at Maghrib. Every town's page shows today's fast, and its month has a Fasting view with Ramadan, Mondays and Thursdays, the White Days, Arafah and Ashura marked.
What are Imsak, midnight and the last third?
Imsak is when to stop eating before a fast, ten minutes before Fajr. Isha is prayed before midnight. The last third of the night is the best time for Tahajjud.
