Privacy Policy
Last updated 19 June 2026
WhatSurah is built to help you find an Ayah, not to learn about you. This page explains, in plain language, what happens to anything you send us.
1. Who we are
WhatSurah is a free service that identifies which Surah and Ayah of the Qur'an is being recited in a video or in your own voice. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean the people who run WhatSurah, and "you" means anyone who uses it.
2. What we do not collect
- No accounts, no sign up, and no passwords.
- No names, email addresses, or phone numbers (unless you choose to email us).
- No profiles, no advertising identifiers, and no selling of data to anyone.
3. What you submit, and what happens to it
To find an Ayah you can either paste a video link or record your voice. We use that input only to retrieve the recitation, match it against the text of the Qur'an, and return the result to you. Once the result is produced, the audio and the link are discarded. We do not store them, build a history, or connect them to you.
4. Information stored on your own device
WhatSurah does not store a profile or any personal data on your device. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies, and we keep no local history of what you have searched.
5. Third-party platforms
When you paste a link from YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram, the audio is retrieved from that platform so it can be analysed. Your use of those platforms is governed by their own privacy policies, which we do not control. We recommend only sharing links to content you are comfortable accessing.
6. Cookies and analytics
We keep this to a minimum. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. If we ever use privacy-respecting, aggregated analytics to understand general usage, it will not identify you personally, and we will update this page first.
7. Children
WhatSurah is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children, because it does not collect personal information at all.
8. Security
Because we do not retain your submissions, there is very little about you for anyone to access. Data that is processed momentarily is handled over secure connections and then removed.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be made clear on the site.
