Ask Ali (رضي الله عنه) about that, for he used to go out on campaign with the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). So he asked him and he said: ‘For the traveller, three days and nights; for one who is not travelling, one day and night.’ It was said to Muhammad: Did he attribute it to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) He said: He thought that it was marfoo but he was afraid to say so.
