Aishah, the wife of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said that whenever he had to choose between two things he adopted the easier one, provided it was nor sin, but if it was any sin he was the one wio was the farthest from it of the people; and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) never took revenge from anyone because of his personal grievance, unless what Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, had made inviolable had been violated.

(Dediki): Bize Yahya b. Said rivayet etti. H. Bize Ebû Kureyb dahî rivayet etti, (Dediki): Bize Ebû Usâme rivayet etti. H. Bana Alîyyü'bnü Hucr da rivayet etti. (Dediki): Bize Alîyyü'bnü Müshir haber verdi. H. Bize Hakem b. Mûsâ dahî rivayet etti. (Dediki): Bize Şuayb b. İshâk rivayet etti.

Bu râvîlerin hepsi Hişâm'dan bu isnadla rivayette bulunmuşlardır. Ebû Usâme hadîsinde «Vasiyet de etmedi.» cümlesi vardır. Nitekim İbni Bişir de aynı cümleyi söylemiş fakat diğer râvîler onu söylememişlerdir. İzah Bu hadîsi Buhârî «Cenâiz» bahsinde tahrîc etmşitir. Nefs kelimesi mansûb okunduğuna göre temyiz yahut fi'lin ikinci mefûlü olur.

Merfû okunursa nâib-i faildir. Kaadı İyâz: «Ekseri rivayetlerimiz mansûbdur.» demiştir. *Üftülitet» «Ansızın öldü, demektir. Bu kelime beklemeden yapılan her fiil hakkında kullanılır. Buhârî' nin Hz. İbni Abbâs' dan rivayet ettiği bir hadîsde: «Sa'dü'bnü Ubâde annesinin ifâ edemeden öldüğü bir neziri hakkında Resulullah {Sallallahu Aleyhi ve Sellem)'den fetva istedi de: — Annen nâmına onu sen edâ et; buyurdular.! denilmektedir; Ebü Dâvûd dahi buna benzer bir hadis rivayet etmiştir

What it means

‘Ā’ishah, Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), informed about some of the morals of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). Among what she mentioned was that whenever the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was given a choice between two matters, he would choose the easier of the two, as long as the easier option did not lead to sin.

If it led to sin, he would be the farthest of people from it and would then choose the more difficult option. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) never sought revenge for himself exclusively; rather, he would forgive and overlook his own rights. But when the sanctities of Allah were violated, he would seek revenge for the sake of Allah, and he was the most intense in anger for the sake of Allah.

What it teaches

  • It is recommended to choose the easier option in matters, as long as it does not involve disobedience to Allah.
  • The ease of Islam.
  • The legitimacy of getting angry for the sake of Allah Almighty.
  • The Prophet's forbearance, patience, and adherence to the truth in enforcing the limits set by Allah Almighty.
  • Ibn Hajar said: It indicates refraining from choosing the difficult option, being content with ease, and abstaining from insistence on matters that are not necessary.
  • Encouraging forgiveness except when it comes to the rights of Allah Almighty.
