عَنْ ثَابِتِ بْنِ أَبِي صَفِيَّةَ
قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ هُوَ مُحَمَّدٌ الْبَاقِرُ حَدَّثَكَ جَابِرٌ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ مرّة مرّة ومرتين مرَّتَيْنِ وَثَلَاثًا ثَلَاثًا. قَالَ: نعم
He asked Abu Jafar, i.e. Muhammad al-Baqir, whether Jabir had told him that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) performed the details of ablution sometimes once each, sometimes twice, and sometimes thrice, and he replied that he had.
