The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was the most generous of all the people, and he used to reach the peak in generosity in the month of Ramadan when Gabriel met him. Gabriel used to meet him every night of Ramadan to teach him the Qur’an. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was the most generous person, even more generous than the strong uncontrollable wind (in readiness and haste to do charitable deeds).

Cebrail Ramazan ayının her gecesinde Nebi (s.a.v.) ile buluşarak onunla Kur'ân'ı müzâkere îderdi. Gerçekten Allah Resulü esen rüzgârdan daha cömertti

What it means

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was the most generous of people, and his generosity was more intense in the month of Ramadan when he would give what was appropriate to those who were worthy of that. His increased generosity was caused by two things: First: His meeting with Gabriel (peace be upon him). Second: Revising the Qur’an, which is to recite it by heart. Gabriel (peace be upon him) would revise all that was revealed of the Qur’an with him.

Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was more generous, more giving, more intense in doing good, and faster in bringing benefit to the people than a good wind sent by Allah with rain and mercy.

What it teaches

  • The Hadīth shows the Prophet's extreme generosity, especially during Ramadan, the month of extensive worship and goodness.
  • It urges us to be generous at all times, and we are recommended to be more generous during the month of Ramadan.
  • We should engage more in generosity, giving, benevolence, and recitation of the Qur’an during the month of Ramadan.
  • One of the means of preserving knowledge is to revise it with the seekers of knowledge and the scholars.
