“Once Muadh was along with the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) as a companion rider. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘O Muadh ibn Jabal.’

Muadh replied, ‘Labbaik and Sadaik. O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)!’ Again the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘O Muadh!’ Muadh said thrice, ‘Labbaik and Sadaik, O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)!’

The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘There is none who testifies sincerely that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is his Messenger, except that Allah, will save him from the Hell-fire.’

Muadh said, ‘O Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)! Should I not inform the people about it so that they may have glad tidings?’ He replied, ‘When the people hear about it, they will solely depend on it.’

Then Muadh narrated the above-mentioned Hadith just before his death, being afraid of committing sin (by not telling the knowledge).”

Beliau lalu bersabda: "Wahai Mu'adz bin Jabal!" Mu'adz menjawab, "Wahai Rasulullah, aku penuhi panggilanmu." Beliau memanggil kembali: "Wahai Mu'adz!" Mu'adz menjawab, "Wahai Rasulullah, aku penuhi panggilanmu."

Ebu Katade şöyle demiştir: Enes'in bize bildirdiğine göre Muaz deve üstünde Nebi Sallallahu Aleyhi ve Sellem'in terkisinde idi. Nebi Sallallahu Aleyhi ve Sellem Muaz'a: ’’£y Muaz bin Cebel!''

dedi. Muaz: "Emret ey Allah'ın Resulü!" dedi. Nebi Sallallahu Aleyhi ve Sellem tekrar: "Ey Muaz' dedi. Muaz: "Emret ey Allah'ın Resulü!" dedi. Bu üç kere tekrarlandı.

Nebi Sallallahu Aleyhi ve Sellem şöyle buyurdu: "Allah'tan başka ilah olmadığına ve Muhammed'in onun Resulü olduğuna samimi kalple şahitlik eden herkesi Allah ateşe haram kılar". Muaz: "Ey Allah'ın Resulü!

Bunu insanlara bildireyim de insanlar sevinsinler" dedi. Nebi Sallallahu Aleyhi ve Sellem: Hayır. O zaman insanlar buna güvenirler (de ameli terk ederler)" buyurdu. Muaz vefatına yakın günaha düşmekten korktuğu için bunu etrafındakilere anlatarak, onları bu hadisten haberdar etti. Tekrar: 129. Diğer Tahric: Müslim İman, Tirmizi İman da tahric ettiler

What it means

Mu‘ādh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) was riding on a mount behind the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), who called him: O Mu‘ādh! He repeated the call three times to show the significance of what he was about to say. Meanwhile, Mu‘ādh was replying: "Here I am at your service, O Messenger of Allah."

That's I am answering your call, O Messenger of Allah, and seek happiness in answering you. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) told him that if anyone bears witness that there is no god but Allah - which means that none is truly worthy of worship except Allah - and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, sincerely from his heart,

not lying, and then he dies in this state, Allah will make him forbidden to Hellfire. Mu‘ādh (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) whether he could tell people about that so that they would rejoice and feel hopeful. But the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) feared that they might solely rely upon that and their good deeds might decrease. So, Mu‘ādh did not narrate this Hadīth to anyone, except at the time of his death, fearing that he would incur the sin of concealing knowledge.

What it teaches

  • The Hadīth highlights the Prophet's humility, as he made Mu‘ādh ride behind him on his mount.
  • It shows the Prophet's approach of teaching, as he repeated the call to Mu‘ādh to draw his attention to what he was going to say.
  • Among the conditions of the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, is to say it with sincerity and certitude, without lying or doubt.
  • The people of monotheistic belief will not abide in Hellfire eternally. If they enter it on account of their sins, they will be brought out of it after they are purified.
  • The Hadīth shows the merit of the two testimonies if one says them with sincerity.
  • It is permissible to refrain from narrating a certain Hadīth under some circumstances when its narration leads to some evil.
