حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مِسْكِينُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ الْحَذَّاءُ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ بُرْقَانَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الأَصَمِّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ

يَقُولُ: «يُبْصِرُ أَحَدُكُمُ الْقَذَاةَ فِي عَيْنِ أَخِيهِ، وَيَنْسَى الْجِذْلَ، أَوِ الْجِذْعَ، فِي عَيْنِ نَفْسِهِ»

“One of you looks at the mote in his brother’s eye while forgetting the stump in his own eye.”

What it means

What it teaches

• It is recommended to give gifts, because the Prophet (ﷺ) commanded it.
• A gift is a cause of love.
• A person should do everything that brings about affection between himself and others—whether through giving gifts, being gentle in manner, speaking kindly, or showing a cheerful face—as much as he can.
