They (the Companions) accompanied the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) while they were climbing the turning of a hill. A man uttered loudly: “There is no god but Allah, and Allah is most great” when he ascended the hill. The Prophet of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: You are not supplicating one who is deaf or absent. He then said: Abd Allah ibn Qais. The narrator then transmitted the tradition to the same effect.

Ebû Musa el-Eş'ârî (r.a.)'den rivayet edildiğine göre, Ashâb Resulullah (s.a.v.) ile birlikte bir yokuşa tırmanırlarken bir adam her tümseği çıkışta yüksek sesle "Lâ ilahe illellahü vellahü ekber" diye bağırmaya başladı. Bunun üzerine Peygamber (s.a.v.); "Şüphesiz siz sağır veya gâib birine seslenmiyorsunuz" buyurdu. Sonra da; "Ya Abdullah b. Kays!.." dedi... Süleyman et-Teymî önceki (1526.) hadisin mânâsını zikretti
