Ubaydullah ibn Yazid said: AbuLubabah passed by us and we followed him till he entered his house, and we also entered it. There was a man in a rusty house and in shabby condition. I heard him say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) say: He is not one of us who does not chant the Qur’an.

I (the narrator AbdulJabbar) said to Ibn AbuMulaykah: AbuMuhammad, what do you think if a person does not have pleasant voice? He said: He should recite with pleasant voice as much as possible.

Telah menceritakan kepada Kami [Abdul A'la bin Hammad], telah menceritakan [Abdul Jabbar bin Al Ward], ia berkata; saya mendengar [Ibnu Abu Mulaikah] berkata; [Ubaidullah bin Abu Yazid] berkata; [Abu Lubabah] lewat didepan Kami, lalu Kami mengikutinya hingga dia masuk ke rumahnya dan Kamipun masuk menemuinya, ternyata ia adalah seorang laki-laki perabotan rumahnya sedikit dan kondisinya memburuk, kemudian aku mendengar dia berkata; aku mendengar Rasulullah shallAllahu wa'alaihi wa sallam bersabda: "Bukan dari golongan Kami orang yang tidak memperindah bacaan Al Qur'an."

Abdul Jabbar berkata; aku bertanya kepada Ibnu Abu Malikah; wahai Abu Muhammad, bagaimana pendapatmu apabila ia tidak bagus suaranya? Ia menjawab; ia perindah suaranya semampunya.

O şöyle dedi: Resulullah (s.a.v.)'in "Kur'an-ı Kerim'le tegannî etmeyen bizden değildir" buyurduğunu işittim. (Râvilerden Abdulcebbâr) dedi ki: îbn Ebi Müleyke'ye: Ya Ebâ Muhammed. Sesi güzel değilse ne yapsın? dedim. Elinden geldiğince güzelleştirir dedi

What it means

In this Hadīth, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) urged us to recite the Qur’an with a melodious voice. The Arabic word "yataghanna", as mentioned in the Hadīth, has two possible meanings: 1. The one who does not make his voice melodious when reciting the Qur’an is not someone following our path and guidance.

2. The one who does not suffice with the Qur’an, seeking guidance elsewhere, is not one of us. Without a doubt, whoever seeks guidance in anything other than the Qur’an, Allah will lead him astray; we seek refuge with Allah. Hence, the Hadīth shows that a Muslim should recite the Qur’an with a melodious voice and find sufficiency in it from anything else.
